With over 16 swim spas to choose from, it can be difficult deciding which one will work best for your family, your space, and your fitness or therapy goals. Today we will help take out some of the guesswork by comparing two of the most popular swim spa series: the Trainer series and the Challenger series

First, let’s talk about what exactly makes a spa a “swim spa.” A swim spa has an underwater current which allows for exercise and play. Swimmers can walk, run, swim, or carry weights into the current for resistance and endurance training that is easy on the joints. But swim spas are also still spas, meaning that they provide jets and seating for relaxation and hydrotherapy as well.

Now we will take a side-by-side look at the Trainer swim spa series and the Challenger swim spa series. We will point out how big they are, what they specialize in, and what they’re meant for, all the while indicating their main differences as well. Both the Trainer swim spas and the Challenger swim spas are created by H2X Fitness by Master Spas, but there are decidedly different elements within their respective models. Let’s dive in!

Size

With six different models to choose from, the Trainer swim spa series offers the wider range in sizes.

At 144″ x 94″ x 51″ and holding 1,245 gallons of water, the Trainer 12 is the smallest within the Trainer and Challenger families, ideal for the space savers out there or small areas. On the other end of the spectrum, the Trainer 19 Deep has the same dimensions as the largest Challenger swim spa, the Challenger 19 D, with dimensions of 231″ x 94″ x 60.”

There is less of a spread in sizes between the four Challenger models, each holding between 2,080 and 2,285 gallons of water.

The Trainer series also offers two different depths (51″ and 60″), while the Challenger series is only available in the deeper size.

Features

The main difference between the Trainer series and the Challenger series is the way that their swim currents work.

The Trainer series swim spas have four air-injected jets, creating an efficient flow of water for walking, running, or swimming against. Alternatively, the Challenger series swim spas have six jets which use airless technology, making for less turbulence, more power, and an even smoother and wider stream. Airless propulsion also makes for greater visibility in the swim current.

Both series’ swim currents are customizable; however, the Trainer series customization is done by manually adjusting the jets while Challenger swim spas are programmable on a control panel as part of AquaSpeed VSP Technology, offering 25 different speed settings.

Speaking of workouts, both Challenger and Trainer swim spas come with the H2Xercise Fitness System, which includes resistance bands, a rowing kit, and the aquatic workout book.

Worth noting is that the Trainer 19, Trainer 19 Deep, and Challenger 19 Deep are the only swim spas that feature two separate bodies of water—with one to function as the area for swimming and exercise while the other functions simultaneously as a hot tub for relaxation and recovery.

Purpose

While the purpose for both Trainer swim spas and Challenger swim spas is primarily the same—water fitness and hydrotherapy—these different series are ideal for slightly different types of customers.

Considering the different ways that the swim current is driven, the Trainer series is better for swimmers pursuing any level of fitness while the Challenger series is highly recommended for more serious fitness enthusiasts. The Challenger swim spas’ airless VIP jets create a more powerful, streamlined flow while the Trainer swim spas’ air-injected VIP jets create a more traditional flow which is still ideal for exercise, but less challenging.

Trainer swim spas are intended for high performance while Challenger swim spas are intended for elite performance.

In the end, both series provide incredible models for fitness, fun, and therapy. Challenger swim spas and Trainer swim spas boast standard features of jetted hydrotherapy seats, XTreme Therapy Cove, and EcoPur Charge Filtration.
